These instructions were setup for the Power Broker user that has already
participated in the word integration process and needs a list to follow to
ensure nothing is missed, as well as the user that would like to try these
instructions first rather than going through a twenty two page instruction
manual. Should you get stuck in these instructions, please also look at
the "more defined" Word Integration manuals that are suited to your Microsoft
Office environment.
Please print and follow along step by step of the next few procedures.
If you are setting up a new user, you will first need to have everyone exit
Power Broker and then run the Utilities, Pack and Re-index first before you
proceed.
STEP 1 - SETTING UP MICROSOFT WORD
Close all programs
Click START, PROGRAMS and then open Microsoft Word.
MR. CLIP IT
Mr. Clip It (Animated Help Icon) should launch within 10 seconds of opening Word.
If not:
A) Word97 Users should see a "?" mark on the right hand side of their screen.
Click it to open.
B) Word 2002 and XP users would go to HELP in the top menu, and then "Show
Office Assistant".
Important: If you do not have Mr. Clip It installed, then you will need to
use your Microsoft Office CD and install this feature.
Tip: You can place your mouse over Mr. Clip It and choose "HIDE" to hide
Mr. Clip It.
Close Word.
MACROS
A) Word97 users should click Tools, Options, General, and the third last
question that talks about Macros should NOT have a check mark in the box
provided.
B) Word 2000 and XP users should click on Tools, Macros, Security, and set
it to LOW.
Close Microsoft Word.
STEP 2 - SETTING UP YOUR ODBC DATA SOURCES
Windows 95/98 go to START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL, and ODBC DATA SOURCES (32
bit).
Windows 2000/ME go to START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL, ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS, and
DATA SOURCES.
Windows XP go to START, CONTROL PANEL, ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS, and DATA SOURCES.
On the USER DSN tab, under the NAME row, if you have any called DBASE, click
once on the name DBASE, then click REMOVE, then click YES. If you have
another DBASE (there are sometimes 2 DBASE drivers installed) under the NAME
row, then repeat the same procedure of REMOVING them.
If you have one called "FOXPRO FILES", then please delete this one as well.
The main one we are looking for is "FOXPRO FILES - WORD". If you do not
have this one, please click here
www.power-broker.com/wdvfpdsn.htm to the
Header Record Deliminator download page, and install the file that's on this
website page. Return to your Data Sources and delete the Dbase files.
STEP 3 - SETTING UP YOUR USER PREFERENCES
The next step is to log into Power Broker as the user that sits at this desk.
If you log into Power Broker as the administrator, you are only configuring the
administrators password, and not the staff members. If your sitting at
Jacks desk, then use Jacks Power Broker I.D.. If your sitting at Jills
desk, then use Jills Power Broker user I.D..
Now that you have logged into Power Broker as the user, go to TABLES, USER
PREFERENCES.
Change the WORD PROCESSING SOFTWARE to WORD97.
Click the BROWSE button located on the right.
In the DRIVE box, always choose C:
Browse to
C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1\OFFICE and then find Winword.exe on the
left box.
If you can not find Winword.exe in this location, try browsing other MICROS
folders for the OFFICE folder or review the "Windows FIND" feature listed at the
bottom of this page to help you find
Folder and file names are abbreviated, so something like PROGRAM FILES would
actually look like PROGRA~1 or another example would be MICROSOFT OFFICE would
be MICROS~1.
C:\PROGRAM
FILES\MICROSOFT OFFICE\OFFICE\WINWORD.EXE would actually look like:
C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS1\OFFICE\WINWORD.EXE
Once you browse into the sub folders, you will find WINWORD.EXE in the
alphabetically in the left window.
Double click this file and click "Return" at the top right of your Power Broker
screen to exit to the main Power Broker desktop.
STEP 4 - SETTING UP YOUR TEMPLATE
It is imperative that you test each template per user, per workstation, before
you use the Word Integration from a CUSTOMER or POLICY menu. Sitting at
Jacks desk, logged in as Jack, you would need to open each template that Jacks
is going to use to ensure that there are no errors or integration problems.
From the main Power Broker desktop, click FORMS, CREATE OR EDIT WORD97
DOCUMENTS.
Rest your mouse over the first document in the list, click on it, then click
SELECT, then EDIT, then PROCEED.
If you receive a "Data Source Name Not Found, No Default Driver Specified"
error, don't panic. The rule of this error is click the left button, then
the right, then the left. You may get this error on all of your templates
in the initial setup, so remember, click left, then right, then left on Remove
data header source.
If you get a "Choose Data Source" box and it asks you to choose "Foxpro Files"
or "Foxpro Files - Word", then choose the "Foxpro Files - Word". Later on,
repeat STEP 2, and REMOVE the "Foxpro Files" driver, but leave the "Foxpro Files
- Word". The integration has too many options, so removing that one will
get ride of that error.

Terminal Server Word Integration Administrative Rights - Permissions |
|
It has been reported by one of customers (March 2004) that should you be in a
terminal server environment, and wish to use the Microsoft Word Integration with
Power Broker without giving staff members administrative rights, you can give
everyone read/write permissions to the c:\winnt\temp(s) directory on the server.
In the past, Word Integration network users needed full administrative
permissions for the Word Integration to work. |

Hit Escape on this error. Log into PB and
go to Forms, Delete Custom Form Letters. This is a good place to look
for any documents that have a name that's longer than 8 characters or contain
symbols other than and underscore (_) or that have a space in front of the
form name. Exit the delete screen, duplicate the documents you wish to
keep with another name that fits the 8 alphanumeric characteristic attributes
and then go back and delete them. Once deleted, go to Utilities, and

Visual Foxpro Driver ODBC Data source needs to be upgraded first message -
Word Integration |
|
A few customers have experienced that in the ODBC Data sources, that Windows for
some reason does not realize that there already is the updated VFPODBC.MSI
installed and keeps asking for it to be upgraded. When you try and
configure, add, or delete foxpro files - word , it gives you this message.
One work-around was to go into Add/Remove Programs, and uninstall the Visual
Foxpro ODBC Data source and then it allows you to delete the Foxpro Files - Word
from the data sources, and then allows you to add it back again. |
Word Integration
'File Save As'
'Cannot write to a read only file'
error message |
|
A customer reported having fixed this problem by uninstalling 'Bit Defender'
which is a third party Trojan/Anti-Virus product. The customer then
re-installed Bit Defender and then un-checked a setting in the program that
mentioned something like 'Scan Accessed Files' and was ok after that. |
Here is the really short version of your integration goal:
1) In Word, macros set to low or unchecked
2) Mr. Clip-it is installed
3) Foxpro Files - Word is in your Data Sources
4) DBase Files and Foxpro Files(without word) is NOT in your Data Souces
5) You browsed to Winword.exe as the Power Broker user sitting at the desk
that you are sitting at and not as another user.
6) From the main Power Broker desktop, go to Forms, Create and try
launching one of the documents in your list. If you have done everything
right, then you would simple click on 'OK', then 'SAVE', then 'OK' and Power
Broker will be returned to your list.
