Steps to create a Windows 98 Second Edition VPN Networking Entry

(Firewall should have 3 ports open: 500UDP, 1723 and 47.)

Click
Make a New Connection

Type a name of BCEVPN.  For Windows 98 the name must be BCEVPN.

Select a device of Microsoft VPN Adapter from the drop-down box.

Select the Next button.

For “Host name of IP address:” type vpn.bebn.com and then

select the Next button.

Select the Finish button.

Now test out the connection by typing in your CSIONet
EDI username and password and select the Connect button.

Setting up the Properties of your VPN Connection

Now that you have your VPN connection established, you need to setup the connection by following these next few steps from the screens provided.  This setup in this example is for the Windows XP version, so Windows 2000 and 98 will look a little different than this but it's ok, compare and mirror the majority of the settings that you see here that are available and it will work fine.

Place your mouse over your new BCEVPN connection in Network Connections, and choose Properties.  Complete your screens just like these next few screen captures.

If you can't connect, and get a 691, then delete the BCEVPN connection and try setting it up again or ensure that you have typed in your username and password correctly into the space provided.
