Power Broker On Windows Vista - Beta 2 - Evaluation Copy
Build 5384
|
August 24/2006 Power Broker was tested on the new but not yet released Windows Vista 32 Bit Operating System and passed with flying colors. Microsoft Windows Vista is the next evolution of operating systems that will replace Windows XP in the future. Windows Vista should be released late 2006 or early 2007. Looking over the Task Manager in Windows Vista Beta 2, the Processes tab displayed the familiar wowexec.exe and foxw2600.esl under the ntvdm.exe umbrella comparable to the Windows XP operating system. ![]() One test was to run a customer report to screen to see how long the response time was. The report was 100 pages long, and took 1.5 seconds to process but only used up 30% CPU usage for the 1.5 seconds ( an average cpu sits at at 2% usage until a program is launched or a task is at hand ). This computers memory ratio sat at 40% with Power Broker closed, and ran at 44% with Power Broker open. Test driving this three year old Pentium 4, with 1.6 MHZ's, a Gig of RAM computer running Windows Vista and Power Broker felt as though it had plenty of elbow room. You could move around freely with confidence that you would be able to multi-task with other programs like Outlook, Internet Explorer, or a quoting program while Power Broker was running all at the same time. Another test was to share out the C:\APPS folder where \BRO was located on the Vista computer and then access Power Broker from another computer. Power Broker launched and ran with ease. August 25/2006 Technical Notes update: In some of the smaller offices, our customers are using the Windows XP Professional version as the operating system of their server. In the past, if your workstation was XP, your server had to be either XP or an actual server edition like NT4, Server 2000 or Server 2003 but Power Broker would not run if the server was using Windows 2000 Professions or Windows 98 as the servers operating system. What's been found so far is that yes the server can be Windows XP Professional, and the workstation can be Windows Vista. This test was made in the Beta 2 Version and may change in the real version due late 2006, early 2007. Further tests for Windows Vista will include: Word Integration with Office 2007 Power Quote Integration CompuQuote Integration |
