This document is designed for brokers THAT HAVE POWER BROKER ALREADY INSTALLED and would like to upgrade the existing Power Broker 3 version to Power Broker 4. NOTE: June 18/2008 - BACKUP YOUR DATA please - It's Critical that an alternate method of backing up your data would be to click this link www.power-broker.com/winrar/winrar.exe and install Winrar by clicking Run, Install, Ok, and then Done, close the Winrar Window, and then open Windows Explorer, and right click over your \BRO folder and choose 'ADD TO BRO.RAR'. Everyone would need to be out of Power Broker to do this. Thank you for choosing Power Broker 4! Please print (in landscape mode) and follow these instructions carefully without skipping any of the details. Should after reading this document over, you find that some of the technical references seem to complex, please either contact our office for assistance, or seek the assistance of your existing local technical support representative for networking and hardware issues. Before continuing with your upgrade, one of the first things you would need to check is your DEP settings. Click on Start, Control Panel, and then System. Click on Advanced, Performance, and then Settings. ![]() Click on Data Execution Prevention ![]() If your screen looks like this, then close out all of the windows and proceed to the next step called "Preparing For Your Upgrade" ![]() If your screen looks like this, then click on Add. ![]() Change the 'Look in' folder to the drive of where Power Broker can be found, double click on the BRO folder. ![]() Double click on brow.exe. ![]() Once your screen looks like this, click 'Apply'. ![]() If the computer you are sitting at is the computer that will be using PowerTools and PBNighty for PB4, then please add these two executables the same way. ![]() • Preparing For Your Upgrade 1) Ensure that everyone has exited Power Broker when doing your upgrade. 2) Please ensure that you run a complete backup of your \BRO directory An alternative backup method - Click here 3) Open your existing Power Broker Build 32, go to Utilities, Update MS Word Document Structures, and if Power Broker runs through your documents, then returns you to the main Power Broker desktop, then please proceed to the next step. If you receive an error 36, then this means that you have invalid Word Template names in your table, and they need to be cleaned up before proceeding. From the main Power Broker desktop, go to Forms, Delete Custom Form Letters, and in the bottom window, find any letter that has a Form Name that may have a space, a symbol, like -,!,@ or other symbols like that. You can usually use an underscore _ . Or you may have a document that has more than 8 characters. Either way, when you find one of these documents, please click on the form, 'Select Form' at the top, then 'Delete Form' until you clean up the bad forms. Return to Utilities, Update MS Word Document Structures and test again until you do NOT get the error 36. 4) If your office DOES use Word Integration, it may be a good idea to run this upgrade from a computer that uses Word Integration on a daily basis.
