TASK SCHEDULER

The Task Scheduler is set up a lot like your nightly backups.  It is a feature that runs during the night when your office staff has gone home.

The Task Scheduler allows you to perform a Pack and Re-Index Active and Archived Databases, Fix Corrupted Databases,  Run an End of Day Processing, and Send & Receive Email / Policies.

These tasks may be run at night before, or after your backups.

This process may take sometime to run.  You may want to do all four items individually from the “Utilities” menu and make note of how long they take combined.

Now that you have established the amount of time needed to run the five options, this will ensure that you do not overlap this process with your backups.

You may select all of the five items to be run at the same time.  In the example below, the Pack and Re-Index will start at 10:00pm.  Each of the other 4 items will follow in succession.

TASK SCHEDULER MENU

Click on Schedule Task

Select Run – Pack and Re-Index Active Databases

Click on “Next” to continue or “Exit” to close this option

Select the frequency of the task that you are scheduling.

Select “Prior” to go back a page, “Next” to keep going or “Exit” to close this option.

Select the time of the day for the task to start.

A good time to perform this task would be in the evening before your backup.

(Advanced Function)

If you have selected a ‘Monthly’ frequency to run a task, Power Broker opens into a “Day of the Month” selection.

Use the up arrow  to select today’s date for example.

Click on next and then next on the screen after that.

Now that you have set all the required criteria, click on “Done”.

You must remember to start the Task Scheduler at the end of every workday by selecting “Start Task Scheduler” on the main menu.

Notify all members of your office of the time that you have chosen and what workstation will be performing this task.

You may shut down your monitor while the Task Scheduler sits on your desktop.

You may still run Power Broker in your office, but all workstations except for this one should exit Power Broker before the 10:00pm Task Scheduler begins. If all operators do not exit from Power Broker before 10:00pm (our example), the database files required for the scheduled utilities will be unavailable causing the Task Scheduler to fail.

You may stop the Task Scheduler by selecting “Stop” and restart it anytime.

If you prefer not to leave Power Broker logged in with your security code, you may set up a “User Security Code” in “Tables” called “Task” to use while performing this task.

At 10:00pm, your Power Broker will start doing its pre-programmed tasks.

Once your Task Scheduler has completed it’s assigned tasks, Power Broker will then close and return you to your Windows Desktop.

This will allow your nightly backups to start and finish without having Power Broker running.

If you wish to un-schedule this task, then select “Un-schedule”.

Click on the item with the “X” and select the “Un-schedule” button at the bottom of your screen.
