Slow Network Connections
It has come to our attention that some Power Broker
users are experiencing slow use while using Power Broker. If you are
experiencing slow connection there are a few different items that should be
looked at. For example:
1. Make sure that all your computer hardware meets the ‘Power Broker Minimum
Hardware Requirements’ as outlined on
www.power-broker.com/minimumhardwarerequirements.htm
2. Ensure that your network has only TCP/IP installed. If
you have more than one protocol installed, network conflicts will occur and
therefore slow down system performance. In addition make sure that each network
item has a unique IP address.
3. Some older programs require NetBIOS in the network set up in order to run
correctly through the network. If this is required, enable the NetBIOS to run
over the TCP/IP. This can be done in the properties of the TCP/IP setting.
4. Turn off any screen savers that are enabled on the file server. This can
cause system resource use that can slow down network performance.
5. Ensure that each Network Interface Card is functional at each workstation. A
quick test to see if the NIC is function is type ping 127.0.0.1 at the DOS
prompt. If you get a response, the card is operational. If no response is
given, the card is either faulty, or the drivers need to be reinstalled.
6. It is recommended that you are running a 100Mbps network, rather than a
10Mbps.
7. Verify that you have minimum 16 policy control records per user in Power
Broker. This is checked from the Utilities – Insert Policy Control Records in
Power Broker.
8. Refer to the documentation on Running Power Broker on a
LAN, which can be found at
www.power-broker.com/runningonalargelan.htm.
