SUMMARY
Getting
Error 1108 is a sign of a problem that doesn't have much to do with pictures,
but with allocation of system memory. This problem can be solved relatively
easily by novice computer users.
A word of warning: Although attempts are made to make the information in these
bulletins accurate and understandable, they are only a guide. Any time you are
making changes to Power Broker or to Windows, there is a chance of things going
wrong. If you feel something is beyond your abilities or just not quite clear, get
a professional computer technician to do work for you.
Q: What's the real problem?
A: The configuration file for Power Broker is missing or
incorrect.
Q: So, what can I do about it?
A: First, you must find the file. If it exists, it will be in the same
directory that Power Broker is loaded in. If you don't know which directory
Power Broker is in, right-click on the 'Shortcut to Power Broker' icon on
your desktop, then choose the 'Properties' option.
In the dialogue box that appears, there will be a "Target" box. This
will contain the file that is executed to run Power Broker, along with its
location.
For example, the target field may contain 'f:\bro\brow.exe' . The
directory is everything up to the last backslash ('\'). This means, in this
case, Power Broker is located in the 'f:\bro\' directory.
Q: I've found the directory, now what about the file?
A: It's time to open the file, whether it exists or not. In Windows 95 /
98, click on the Start button, then choose "Run...". When the
window opens, there are three things you'll have to type in.
So, in this example, you would type "edit
f:\bro\config.fpw" in the run box.
Q: I've opened the file, but it's blank. What's wrong?
A: You might want to double check that you've got the right directory,
and if you do, it means the configuration file doesn't exist. That's what caused
the error.
Add the lines:
MVCOUNT=5000
MEMLIMIT=90
Click on 'File' from the menu on top, then 'Save'.
Next, click on 'File' then 'Exit'.
You're finished. Try running Power Broker again, the error message should be
gone forever.
Q: I've opened the file, there's some stuff in it. What now?
A: There are two lines that need to be in this file, there might be more,
but we're only going to worry about two. They are:
MVCOUNT=5000
MEMLIMIT=90
If you see the words 'MVCOUNT' or 'MEMLIMIT', change the number
after the equals sign to match what's given above. If they are nowhere to be
found, simply add these two lines.
Click on 'File' from the menu on top, then 'Save'.
Next, click on 'File' then 'Exit'.
You're finished. Try running Power Broker again, the error message should be
gone forever.
If you are working on a local copy of Power Broker, but using the data off of a
server, ask whoever's in charge of the server to read this bulletin, and make
any changes if necessary.
