Introducing
PBTASK Utility for Power Broker 4
Let's imagine that you needed a method of running the basic
features such as Fix
Corrupted Files, the Pack and Re-index and the End of Day
procedure but you weren't
in the office for a few days and really needed this stuff to get
done all on it's own.
Using PBTASK, in combination with your
Windows Task Manager, will run these features as per your
scheduling.
You can schedule Windows to run PBTASK at any day, or time you
want as long as everyone is out of Power Broker 4 of course...
NOTE:
1) This procedure needs to be setup on a computer that
is on all the time. If you turn off the computer at night,
this procedure will not run.
2) This procedure needs exclusive database so no one
should be in Power Broker 4 when this utility is run
3) You should NOT run any other nightly utilities while
PBTASK is running such as:
A) Scheduled backups
B) Antivirus Scan/Updates
C) Scheduled Server or Workstation Hard Drive Defrags
D) Any other third party scan/check/upgrade
E) Ensure that you do not have any intense screen
savers that use a large amount of memory.
SETUP Instructions:
Step 1) Setting up Windows Task Scheduler
With your mouse, go to:
Start
All Programs
Accessories
System Tools
Scheduled Tasks
Click 'Add Scheduled Task' and click on 'Next'.

Click 'Browse'
Choose the Power Broker drive where \BRO is and double click on
PBTASK.exe

Select 'Weekly' and click on 'Next'

Select a time of the day where everyone is out of Power Broker
and does on conflict with your backup of \BRO.
Select the number of days you wish to run this utility.

You will need to authenticate your network connection with the
proper Microsoft Windows username and password that you use when
you turn on your computer. IF you do not have a password,
you will need to go to START, Control Panel, User and Accounts
and select your user and create a new password.

Step 2) Setting up Power Broker Task Scheduler
The second imperative step is to open Power Broker and log in.
You would then go to Task Scheduler, and Scheduled Task.

Repeat the same procedures for the other options using the exact
same time as the next. In this example, we used 23:05.
We would use the exact same time for the other 3 items
scheduled:
Click Exit.

At 11:00PM, a screen like this will be displayed:

And then two minutes later, a screen like this will be
displayed:

Step 3) Checking to ensure that things ran as scheduled
Once you have added the scheduled task, a way to ensure that
everything ran smoothly the next day is to log into PowerTools,
and visit the log.

What you should see is the Method should be PBTask, and for now,
the only logging we have will be EndOfDay with a Y-N.

The second location to look would be in the actual Power Broker,
Task Scheduler menu. This menu will tell you if all of the
items you selected completed to the end.

We hope you enjoyed a preview of some of the new features we
have to offer.
