Anti-Virus Software

Summary

Question:
What antivirus software should I purchase?

Answer:
Power Broker technical support department has had positive results with
'Symantec/Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition'.  Brokerages that use email and/or internet should consider purchasing and installing 'Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition'.

This version of Antivirus is an easy software package to set up. This product is centralized, which means that all administration is done from one computer. The network can be configured to update all computers automatically, so you do not have to worry about not having the latest Virus Definitions. This product will also scan a file once until the file has changed. This works the best with Power Broker, as files are constantly being opened.

Please make note that when running Anti-Virus Software, with full-enabling protection, your Power Broker may operate slower.

To test whether or not your Anti-Virus Software is slowing down your Power Broker, disable some or all of the software features and try Power Broker again.

Make note that your Anti-Virus Software may be on your server which will effect the entire network.  You may need to do the same procedure to your server.

One of our clients reported that using Windows XP and Norton "Email" virus option enabled stopped information from being uploaded during the send and receive procedure.  The customer disabled the "Email" virus scan, tried the send and receive again, and everything went fine.

A word of warning : Although attempts are made to make the information in these bulletins accurate and understandable, they are only a guide. Any time you are making changes to Power Broker or to Windows, there is a chance of things going wrong. If you feel something is beyond your abilities or just not quite clear, get a professional computer technician to do work for you.

December 28/2006 Update:
A customer experienced an issue with the Microsoft Word Integration when using Norton 2006 Edition.  It would take 20 seconds to launch the word document.  Norton was uninstalled, and open time was reduced to 6 seconds.  A replacement NOD32 Antivirus program was installed and change the Microsoft Word launch time from 6 to 9 seconds.  The server was using another type of anti-virus program so the technical support staff was going to install NOD32 on it and see how the speed was.  EDI Upload was tested with NOD32 and there were no issues to report.

I would imagine that Norton 2006's settings could be adjusted to cut down the launch time of Word but nothings been reported yet on this topic.
